Oil and gas jobs in Nigeria are no doubt the most sought after job vacancies in Nigeria.This is because oil job opportunities in Nigeria attract the most rewarding job packages when compared to other Nigeria jobs. Crude oil is indeed in huge quantity in Nigeria but that will not make one to insinuate that oil and gas job vacancies will be huge in Nigeria. Many oil & gas jobs in Nigeria are advertised to attract only foreigners or Nigerians that studied abroad. Most of the ones we hear about are for top management staff.
For graduates to have a place in the Nigeria oil sector, it is always easier to go through internships. Millions of Nigerians register for oil career internships every year while few are called. Out of those that are called, some will be taken while others are dumped.
In this case what do we do? Look for a small oil firm to work for. Even if it is one of those that transport petrol from the depot or small petrol station do it.If you need to pay them on top,do it. For higher management oil and gas jobs, try and acquire job experiences in related field from smaller companies. It is always more fruitful to get the work experiences from more than one related companies. You can also go for further training if you can afford it.
Salaries : Oil and gas career attracts high salaries and benefits.Graduate salaries can be as high as N15,000,000 (higher or lesser) per annum depending on company and area of specialization.Oil companies also give other welfare benefits like health, car and travel allowances etc. Oil and gas graduates can earn up to £80,000 in UK and US.
High level oil and gas jobs attracts from £80,000 to £150,000 in UK and US but lower in Nigeria depending on company.If it is a big corporation like Shell,Transnational etc,they may be paying in foreign currencies too.
Entry requirements for Oil and Gas jobs in Nigeria: Graduate internships requires you to have a Bachelors degree with minimum of a 2:2 and HND with minimum of a lower credit.
For student jobs and internships, you can apply while still in school or already obtained an OND.
For higher level jobs,work experience and advance foreign training is very important.
Apart from educational qualification,they also need qualities like:

• Swimming skills for offshore jobs
• Quantitative and analytical skills
