The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is a member of a global fellowship of Non-Denominational Christian Organisation whose primary vision involves translation of the Holy Scriptures into languages people can easily read and understand as well as publishing and redistribution of same at affordable prices. she also organises programmes to encourage interaction with the Scriptures and raises funds for her activities.
The Position
The position reports to the Assistant General Secretary – Publishing The job holder ensures that translation under his/her supervision meets very strict exegetical accuracy in relationship to the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek original texts. He also ensures its clarity and naturalness. The job holder heads the technical aspect of language translation projects. He also plays an important role in identifying the training needs of Translators.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring high quality of translation work according to the United Bible Societies standard
  • Motivating literacy programmes in any language of interest to the BSN
  • Conducting research into development in linguistics, biblical languages and translation theory
  • Preparing helps for translators, readers and other audiences
  • Developing project schedules and ensuring timeliness in completion of new translation projects
  • Developing training materials, organising training for Translators and monitoring translated work with the language speakers to determine when review should be done.
Personnel Specifications
  • A doctorate degree in either linguistics or Biblical studies. If the Doctorate degree is in linguistics, s/he should have a good knowledge of biblical languages. If the Doctorate is in Biblical Studies, s/he should have a good knowledge of linguistics.
  • Those on Doctoral Thesis may be considered
  • Leadership, high interpersonal relationship, communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of sociology and anthropology is important
  • Flair for local and international travels
  • 7 years of translation experience with 3 years at senior level of project management and team-building will be added advantages

Applicants must be practicing and committed Christians with good testimonies of turning point experiences and willing to learn. The remuneration for this position is between N3m and  N4.5m per annum with a furnished accommodation. The  position is pensionable.

We are seeking qualified Nigerian nationals for two positions for the USAID- funded Northern Education Initiative

The U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Nigerian Ministry of Education (MOE) has funded a five-year Northern Nigerian Education Initiative (NE1) project focused on improving educational outcomes in the northern States of Bauchi and Sokoto. The Northern initiative has two overall objectives; 1) strengthen state and local government capacity to deliver basic education services by addressing key issues in the management, sustainability and oversight of basic education in selected northern Nigerian states; and 2) increase the access of orphans and vulnerable children to basic education and other Services in NEI states.
Position:
  • The will be based in Sokoto to support interventions designed to strengthen strategic planning systems and strengthen education management information systems. This includes technical assistance to Sokoto state to strengthen institutional review processes and civil society participation in education planning, and improving the quality, access and use of information for decision-making via capacity building of the education management information system.
Qualifications
  • At least five years of relevant experience in education management and planning, with familiarity working in State and local governmental systems in Nigeria.
  • Prior experience providing training and capacity building to staff and counterparts in of planning, information for decision-making, and management.
  • Undergraduate degree in Education, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa required
Position:
  • The Computer Programmer/ Data Analyst will serve as a technical advisor for both Sokoto and Bauchi in support of all NEI components. The primary focus of this position is to support the development of data management applications, analytical tools, and data integration strategies that can be utilized by NEI stakeholders across sectors, particularly Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Teacher Education and Civil Society and Education Planning and Management. This includes providing training to EMIS personnel at both State and LGEA levels on basic computer maintenance, data management, data analysis and reporting: overseeing installation of EMIS hardware and software and training State staff; assisting in linking multiple data sets across the State education databases
Qualifications
  • At least five years of relevant experience in data management, computer programming;
  • Prefer to have familiarity working with State-level information systems in Nigeria.
  • Prior experience providing training and capacity building to staff and counterparts in areas of computer programming, management information systems, and data analysis
